Department of Chemical, Biological, and Bioengineering

College of Engineering

North Carolina A&T State University

Dr. Matthew McCullough is an assistant professor in the Department of Chemical, Biological, and Bioengineering at his alma mater North Carolina A&T State University.Dr. McCullough graduated from A&T in 2001 with a B.S. degree in Industrial Engineering and obtained his Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering from the University of Iowa, under theadvisorship of Dr. Nicole Grosland. His research area was hand and wrist musculoskeletalbiomechanics, focusing on total wrist arthroplasty design and simulation and upper extremity kinematics. Dr. McCullough completed his post-doctoral training at Mayo Clinic,in Rochester, MN, working on orthopaedic biomechanics and physiology cellular imaging laboratories. His post-doctoral research included non-invasive imaging of muscle tissueas well as cadaveric studies of the foot and ankle. Dr. McCullough’s long term goals include educating undergraduate, and graduate students, as well as the general community in biomechanics and biomedical engineering. His research interests include the affects of diabetes, arthritis and other diseases on the musculoskeletal system. He plans to studythese areas from both theoretical/computational and experimental perspectives which includebut are not limited to finite element analysis, whole body simulation, and image reconstruction.Dr. McCullough currently serves on the diversity committee for the American Society of Biomechanics and has served as an ad-hoc reviewer for various biomechanics journals.
